Verse 1
Each time people practice truth or undergo refinement,
each time God’s work comes, they endure extreme pain.
Every time’s a test for them, so inside there’s a battle.
It’s the real and actual price that they must pay.
Reading more of God’s words, travelling, they pay their price;
it’s what people ought to do, it is their duty.
But people must learn to put aside the things within them:
their own thoughts and plans, their notions and motives.
Pre-chorus
If they don’t, it will not matter how they suffer
or how much they do, for it will all have been in vain.
Chorus
Whether the price you’ve paid is approved by God
is measured by whether there’s been a change in you,
whether you put the truth into practice,
rebelling against your motives and notions
to gain the satisfaction of God’s will,
to gain knowledge of Him and loyalty to God.
Verse 2
It’s only the changes taking place within you
that can determine if your hardship is of value.
When your disposition changes and you practice the truth,
then all your suffering will gain God’s approval.
But if your internal disposition has not changed,
it won’t matter how much running about on the outside;
no matter how much suffering you may have endured,
if it hasn’t been confirmed by God, then it’s in vain.
Chorus
Whether the price you’ve paid is approved by God
is measured by whether there’s been a change in you,
whether you put the truth into practice,
rebelling against your motives and notions
to gain the satisfaction of God’s will,
to gain knowledge of Him and loyalty to God.
